I had the opportunity to introduce Alice Major’s new collection of poems entitled ‘Welcome to the Anthropocene’ at the UofA Observatory.\u00a0 I gave a short presentation on the science of the Anthropocene to a very a very literate crowd.\u00a0 It was great fun- and an excerpt from Alice’s book:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This home. Clouds, oceans, life forms span it<\/p>\n
from pole to pole, within a peel of air<\/p>\n
as thin as lace lapped round an apple. Fair<\/p>\n
and fragile bounded sphere, yet strangely tough\u2014<\/p>\n
this world that life could never love enough.<\/p>\n
And yet its loving-care has been entrusted<\/p>\n
to a feckless species, more invested<\/p>\n
in the partial, while the total goes unnoticed.<\/p>\n
