We aim to foster relationships that encourage the community to take advantage of the many opportunities EAS and its members offer throughout the year. In 2021, GASI (formerly GASSS) launched the mentorship program with \"academic families,\" inspired by the UK's system. Since then, we\u2019ve refined the program year by year based on participant feedback to create a more flexible and inclusive structure.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s mentorship program will run from January to December 2025 (excluding the Spring and Summer terms - unless pods want to meet) and it is open to anyone in the department, including graduating students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-512-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-512-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-512-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Here\u2019s how it works:<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>Mentorship pair: Based on your preferences, we will pair you with a mentee or mentor.<\/p>\n<p>Mentorship Pods: Each pod will consist of up to four graduate-undergraduate pairs, designed to facilitate group interaction.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty Participation: Faculty members will serve as \"floating mentors\" at sponsored events, meaning they\u2019ll be available to connect informally with participants.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored Events: We\u2019ll host a variety of activities throughout the year to encourage connection and engagement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-512-2\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-512-2-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-512-2-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">What's expected within the GASI mentorship program?<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>Meet with your pod at least once during the Winter term to get to know one another. Group settings can often make the mentee-mentor connection more approachable.<\/p>\n<p>Meet with your mentee\/mentor soon after pod assignments to establish rapport and set the tone for the year.<br \/>\nCheck in with your mentee\/mentor periodically throughout the program to maintain a strong relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Attend GASI-sponsored events if your schedule allows\u2014these activities are curated to foster community and provide opportunities for connection. Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re excited to see how this year\u2019s mentorship program continues to build a supportive, connected EAS community.
