2012/2013 Executive Council

The P.S. Warren Geological Society is run by an elected volunteer executive.

President – Chad Hayes

chadWell Hello… My name is Chad Hayes and I’ll be your PS Warren President for the 2012 / 2013 school year. I spent last summer down in Calgary working for Cenovus Energy mapping the McMurray and the summer before that prospecting for gold in Southern BC with APEX Geoscience. This is my 4th and final year of my undergrad degree so likewise, I’m excited to fire it for one last kick at the can here at the U of A.  We have a busy year ahead with all sorts of Geo Events on the horizon so I hope to see everyone from last year as well as plenty of new faces enjoying the festivities.

VP External – Joel Gagnon

joelHi Everyone, My name is Joel Gagnon. I am the Vice President External. I grew up in the Northern Community of Slave Lake.  Currently I am in my fourth and final year of Geology. This past summer I was a research assistant for the Ichnology Research Group and became a Nephtys Warrior (a proud moment in my life). As VP Ex, I plan bridging the gap between industry and students as well as the legendary Eng-Geo divide.

VP Internal – Aimée Gegolick

aimeeHello! My name is Aimée Gegolick and I am your VP internal for the year. I am in my fourth year in the Geology Specialization Program. I enjoy rock climbing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. If you have any concerns in the department, feel free to contact or come and talk to me. I am looking forward to a great year                                                                                           and meeting more geos!

Treasurer – Maryam Dzulkefli

maryamHey, my name is Maryam Dzulkefli and I’m the treasurer for PS Warren for this year. Currently in my 4th year of honors in geology. I’m originally from Malaysia, the land of food haven. I’ve always been interested in rocks ever since I was small and couldn’t be more than happy coming to the UofA for my degree. Have always love structures, and currently doing a thesis on structural geology. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, such as kayaking and camping.

Secretary – Paula Tomko

paulaI am in my 4th year BSc Specialization Geology and have experience working for Sherritt Coal at the Coal Valley Mine. My favorite mineral is Olivine. I love purple, the outdoors and I am a trekkie.

Social Conveners – Nicole Roberts and Cosette Gilmour

nicoleHey guys. I’m Nicole Roberts, one of your Social Conveners this year; I’m a third/fourth year geology student (graduating Dec 2013). This past summer, I got to go to Newfoundland for six weeks for field work, and I spent the rest of the summer working for the university in a lab. I plan on arranging some wicked get-togethers for us this year, as well as mixing a few things up to make them even better! Hope to see you all out there:)

cosetteHola! My name is Cosette and I’m one of the Social Conveners for PS Warren. I’m in my 3rd year of geology and I was born and raised in Lloydminster, AB. Ever since grade 3, where I was first introduced to rocks and minerals, something clicked in me and I’ve been a rock hound ever since (which is ironic because Lloydminster’s main geological feature is gravel). My main interest is planetary science and I plan on studying the geology of other planets and asteroids. I want to work for NASA someday… Shoot for the stars, right?

This is my first year as a PS Warren Exec, but I was a member last year. As one of the social conveners I will be planning all the cool parties and events you will hopefully attend throughout the year. The PS Warren parties are a great way to meet new people, so I hope to see you there!

Grad Chairs – Torrey Hallan and Megann Sullivan

torreyHi my name is Torrey Hallan. I am in my fourth year of Geology and I am one of the Grad reps for this year. I am very excited to be a member of P.S.Warren this year and think that we are going to have a fantastic year. I am a big hockey fan and hope that the first ores bring home the cup at the end of the year. I am easy to get to know and hope to see all of you out at our mixers this year for a casual drink or two.

megannHey everyone,

My name is Megann and I will be one of your grad chairs for the upcoming school year. I will be helping to organize one of the funniest nights you will have this school year ( well atleast for all of the graduates:) ).

I started into the world of geology with a keen sense to help the environment and that is still what I want to accomplish after I graduate in April. So I kind of consider myself half a geo and half an enviro student.

I love all types of music and musical instruments and on the rare occasion singing out for all the world to hear. I also love to ski, so there is a possibility that you will see me on the slopes in January.

I hope this last year, or third or second year, go by with gusto and that they are not only filled with studying for awesome exams but also fun times with friends.

Sports Representatives – Noushin Yari and Alannah Grande

noushinHi guys! My name’s Noushin Yari and I am one of the sports reps this year with Alannah Grande. I am entering my fourth year at the UofA and my third year in geology.  Make sure to come join all the sports teams this year! Also, fun fact…I really like obsidian!

alannahMy name is Alannah Grande and I am from Red Deer. I am in my 3rd year of geology. This summer I worked in interior B.C. as a prospector. This year I will be your sports rep along with Noushin Yari. If you have questions about any of the intramural teams feel free to email me at acgrande@ualberta.ca. I hope to see you out there this year!

Environmental Rep – Tiffany Riddle

tiffanyMy name is Tiffany Riddle and I’ll be serving as the Environmental Representative. I’m in my final year of my undergrad degree in Honors Environmental Earth Science. I’ve been working at the EOSL for Dr. Sanchez for the last two years, studying tropical dry forest succession in Brazil with LiDAR and other remote sensing techniques, allowing for some great opportunities for field work! My other interests include anything GIS, world travelling, avid concert going and Canadian pilsners.

Second Year Rep – Davis MacDonald

davisMy name is Davis MacDonald and I’ll be your second year rep for the 2012/2013 school year. I grew up in Calgary and moved up to edmonton in 2011 to pursue my interest in geology. I’m in my second year and aim to get the second years more involved in the P.S. Warren this year. I love spending time in the mountains, especially in the spring and summer, and am looking forward to the ski trip this year. I hope to see a lot of you second years out having some fun and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
