I am an assistant professor at the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences department at the University of Alberta. My group focuses in understanding the behavior of elements on Earth including critical elements such as tungsten, metals including base and precious metals, and tracers of geologic processes such as REE.

We study geologic systems from the perspective of fluid-rock interaction, determining how fluids and rocks evolve as they interact with each other. This approach requires observation at a variety of scales from ore deposit mapping to analyses of microscopic features. Ore deposits are massive geochemical anomalies and, as such, they are economically interesting and provide excellent examples to understand how elements are transported and deposited in Earth.

If you want to know more about these topics, talk about your interests in geochemistry and/or ore deposits, or discuss career paths in geosciences please contact me at lecumber@ualberta.ca.
