2019/2020 Executive Council

The P.S. Warren Geological Society is run by an elected volunteer executive.

President-Paul Mickelsen

Hello everyone! My name is Paul Mickelsen and I’ll be your powerful president for the 2019/20 school year. I am in the fourth final year of my degree in this school of hard rocks, and I am a total outdoor enthusiast. I enjoy rock hunting, fishing, back country camping, and too many others to list. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas that would be great for PS Warren, you can reach me at pmickels@ualberta.ca and I would be more than happy to help out!

Vice President- Shawn Day

Hey my dudes, my name is Shawn Day and I am your Vice President for 2019/2020. I am a 4th year Geology major with a focus in petroleum geology. Aside from Geology, I’m a huge Seahawks and Oilers fan, even through all the heartbreak. One of my roles this year is to organize the PS Warren and Geology clothing and gear sale so any recommendations on cool designs and awesome gear to order. Keep it real.

Social Convener-Jordan Koop

Hey everyone, my name is Jordan Koop, and I’m one of your Social Conveners for this year! I have an apatite for rock-related knowledge and also enjoy reading books and watching movies, as well as the local drama of the Oilers each year. I’m looking forward to talc-ing to all of you at events this year!

Social Convener- Shaun Woodstra

Greetings, my fellow rock-lickers and earth-splitters! My name is Shaun, and I am one the Social Convenors for the 2019-2020 year. After taking Civil Engineering Technology at NAIT, I unearthed a passion for Geology and am currently in my 3rd year of study. Inhaling volcanic ash is my workplace hazard of choice, with scrambling up talus slopes as a close second. I look forward to meeting you all in the coming semesters; feel free to contact me at woudstra@ualberta.ca if you have any event suggestions or questions about crystal healing!

Social Convener-David Hoch

My name is David Hoch, but most people call me Dave. I’m currently in my 3rd year of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, but my 5th year of school. I’m most likely the only person to have enjoyed drawing microscope observations of thin sections. I am an outdoors enthusiast, and love anything to do with the mountains. My favorite season is winter because I’m from Northern BC; I have had winter 9 months a year, so I grew to love it. I’m in charge of organizing the P. S. Warren ski trip for this year, so I hope to see you there. I’m stoked to meet everyone who’s new to P. S. Warren. If you have any inquiries about P. S. Warren, school, skiing, hiking or anything in general you can feel free to email me at dhoch@ualberta.ca .

Sports Rep- Jerry Gan

Hello everyone. My name is Jerry and I will be your Sports Representative this upcoming year! I’m currently in my third year at the U of A and I like studying rocks, looking at maps, and playing volleyball! Playing sports is a great way to relieve stress and make friends! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at our events this year!

Environmental Earth Science Rep – Brielle Andersen

Hello! I’m Brielle, your Environmental Earth Science representative this year. I’m in my fourth year of the program and have worked as an RA in the EAS department for a year now both in the lab and in the field! My main interest is in Quaternary geoscience, including paleoclimate/paleoenvironment reconstruction during and before the last glacial maximum. Outside of school and work I spend my time bouldering and with friends of course!

Treasurer- Bennett Braun

I’m the treasurer for the club. I’m a 3rd year geology major undergraduate student. Recreationally, I enjoy rock climbing, trail running, and fly fishing. I’ve done some geothermal research work with the university for the Yukon and Alberta. Looking forward to this semester and some rad club events!

Grad Rep-Spencer Poulette

Hey everyone! I’m excited to be your graduation representative this year, it’s sure to be a lot of fun! I’m currently in my fourth year specializing in geology, mostly interested in crystalline rocks and ore deposits. Outside of university I love to hike, rock climb, and fish all around Alberta. I look forward to meeting and getting to know all the new faces this year!.

Grad Rep-Allyson Ullrich

Hey everyone, my name is Allyson Ullrich and I am one of your Grad Representatives this year. I’m going into my 5th year of Geology and have been a member of PS Warren for the past 3 years. My school interests include structural geology, ore deposits/mining, and really anything hard rock. I enjoy showjumping (yes, with horses), rock climbing, hiking and kayaking. Due to an unforeseen job offer I will be primarily conducting my duties throughout the winter term, but I am excited to get to know everyone and attend as many events as I can while I’m in town!

Second Year Rep and Secretary- Sydney

Hey there, my name is Sydney and I’ll be your second year representative and secretary this year! My hobbies include petting cats and collecting cool rocks.
