This project proposal intends to study Federal-provincial/territorial immigration agreements, particularly, the Canada-Ontario and Canada-Alberta immigration agreements, to understand how the resources and services available at the local level can be leveraged for successful settlement and integration of newcomers.

Research Questions:

  • How effective is multi-level and multi-scalar governance such as that of Canada in immigrant settlement?
  • Is a direct federal engagement with individual municipal governments necessary to ensure a coordinated and thoughtful approach to newcomer attraction and settlement in the future?
