For my PhD I will be investigating isotopes within diamonds, focusing on hydrogen. Despite being known to be present, based on FTIR spikes, little is understood about this common impurity in diamonds. An aim of my project will be to develop a method for estimating hydrogen contents within diamonds using SIMS. This project also hopes to improve our understanding of hydrogen’s relation within the diamond and what this element can tell us about diamond origins within the mantle.
